Former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has called on Nigerians to rigorously scrutinize the backgrounds, performance histories, and policy propositions of all aspirants running for elective positions in the 2027 general elections.
In a public statement issued on Tuesday via his verified X (formerly Twitter) page, Obiano emphasized that the eventual outcome of the 2027 general elections will be determined long before voters head to polling centers across the nation.
Highlighting the legal landscape governing the process, Obiano referenced the Supreme Court’s decision restoring key provisions of the Electoral Act regarding candidate nomination frameworks and political party membership registers.
He noted that the judicial decision places an immediate responsibility on political organizations to implement transparent internal procedures, maintain accurate voter rolls, and enforce disciplined candidate selection.
“Electoral credibility is not created by courts or electoral bodies alone,” Obiano stated, adding that democratic integrity relies on the joint conduct of political parties, the professionalism of public institutions, civic engagement, and the quality of national debate.
The former governor stressed that democratic governance functions best when citizens have access to verified information, clear options among competing candidates, and full confidence that every vote cast will be respected.
Obiano’s intervention comes amid heightened political discussions surrounding candidate credentials and institutional transparency as the country prepares for the upcoming electoral cycle.
