Two friends were on Monday arraigned before a Dutse Senior Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly attacking a businessman and damaging his Samsung mobile phone valued at N1.5 million.

The defendants, Mubarak Adamu, 25, and Abba Abdullahi, 23, were charged with joint act, causing grievous hurt and mischief, offences contrary to Sections 79, 247 and 327 of the Penal Code Law. The prosecution alleged that the incident occurred on September 15.

Prosecution Counsel, Juliana Atinko, told the court that the complainant, Isaac David, a resident of Gwarinpa, reported the incident at the Gwarinpa Police Station. She said David had boarded a tricycle from War College to Oando Filling Station in Gwarinpa when the defendants allegedly attacked him with a knife before he reached his destination.

Atinko alleged that the attack left David with an injury to his right hand and resulted in damage to his Samsung phone, which was valued at N1.5 million. The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges, while the prosecutor asked the court to set a date for the commencement of the case.

Magistrate Umar Dodo granted the defendants bail with two reasonable sureties each and ordered them to provide affidavits and undertakings. He also directed each surety to provide a N150,000 bail bond and adjourned the matter until October 12 for hearing.
