The National Vice-Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), South-East Zone, Mr. Teddy Obe, has strongly dismissed allegations of death threats and extortion levied against the party’s leadership by Mr. Ceejay Ezebuiro, the NDC House of Representatives candidate for the Ideato North and South Federal Constituency.

Speaking at a press conference held on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at the party’s Zonal Secretariat in Owerri, Imo State, Obe countered statements made earlier by Ezebuiro during a media briefing in Owerri.

Ezebuiro claimed that following his victory at the May 28, 2026, National Assembly primaries, top national and zonal figures, including Teddy Obe, National Secretary Ikenna Morgan, Chief Martin Agbaso, and former Imo State Governor Achike Udenwa demanded ₦150 million from him to secure his nomination.

He further alleged that the leaders issued threats to his life and planned to leverage the region’s current security challenges to cover up any potential harm.

In response, Obe refuted the claims, describing them as entirely baseless and an attempt to smear the leadership of the party.

”The NDC remains committed to democratic processes, internal accountability, and the rule of law,” Obe stated during the briefing. “Any member with genuine grievances should utilize the appropriate internal conflict resolution channels rather than resorting to media campaigns designed to tarnish the party’s reputation.”

Obe urged party faithful and constituents across the Ideato North and South Federal Constituency to remain calm, emphasising that the NDC leadership will continue to uphold internal democracy and support legally recognised candidates in accordance with official party procedures and electoral guidelines.
