The Rivers State Police Command has categorically dismissed a viral video circulating on social media alleging that the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, grabbed or facilitated the grabbing of land belonging to residents of Victory Estate, Rumuosi Community, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
​In an official statement released on Monday, September 21, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Blessing Agabe (Kaborlo), the Command described the claims as false, misleading, and a distortion of facts.
The CP received an application March 6, 2025, from O. S. Obior, Esq., counsel to Kirigust Global Resources Nig. Ltd., requesting police protection for a court bailiff to execute a court judgment in Suit No. CCC/22/2015.
Following a referral to the Department of Operations and the Police Legal Section for verification, the Customary Court in Choba confirmed the judgment was valid with no pending appeal or stay of execution. Based on legal advice, on April 8, 2025, police officers were deployed solely to provide security cover for the court bailiff, with explicit instructions not to physically participate in the execution process.
During the enforcement, residents of Victory Estate objected, noting that while the court judgment was valid, it pertained to land in the adjacent Rumuagholu Community and did not extend to Victory Estate, Rumuosi. CP Adepoju immediately ordered the execution process halted and directed the Police Legal Section to investigate the conflicting territorial claims.
The Police Legal Section obtained the Certified True Copy of the judgment and site plan from the Customary Court in Choba and sent them to the Surveyor-General of Rivers State for charting. The Surveyor-General confirmed that the land in question was situated within Rumuagholu Community, rendering the attempt to execute the judgment on Victory Estate, Rumuosi, wrongful. ​
The investigation uncovered alleged criminal offenses arising from the wrongful attempt to enforce the judgment on Victory Estate. Consequently, the police recommended several individuals for prosecution, including Col. Ogwumerum Eke, Chief Mike Oyakire, Prince Chima Kelechi, and Samuel Chike. ​
A nine-count charge (Charge No. PHC/3683/CR/2025) has since been filed against Col. Ogwumerum Eke and others at the High Court of Rivers State. The Command also noted that a related fundamental rights suit, Suit No. PHC/1467/FHR/2026, filed by Col. Eke and three others against the Nigeria Police Force, remains pending before the court. ​
ASP Blessing Agabe reiterated that CP Olugbenga Adepoju neither acquired, grabbed, nor took possession of any land in Victory Estate, emphasising that his role was strictly limited to authorising legal security cover for a court bailiff. ​
The Command issued a strict directive warning all police officers in Rivers State against entering or enforcing land-related matters without explicit authorization, highlighting that land disputes remain civil matters.
