The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Hussaini Yusuf Datti, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa State Constituency bye-election in Kano State.
The official declaration was made late Saturday evening, September 19, 2026, at the INEC Collation Centre in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area.
Announcing the final results around 8:30 PM, the INEC Returning Officer confirmed that Datti secured a landslide victory after polling 22,890 votes.
His closest rivals, the candidates of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdullahi Adamu, polled 270 votes and 108 votes respectively. Voting commenced across various polling units in the constituency at 8:30 AM following early accreditation.
Electors turned out across key electoral wards, including Dawaki, Tamburawa, Yanbarau, and Kaduna, where electoral officers noted a orderly and peaceful process throughout the day. Reacting to the electoral outcome, the APC State Publicity Secretary in Kano commended both the election body and security agencies for maintaining law and order during the poll.
“This decisive victory reflects the unwavering trust and confidence the people of Dawakin Kudu and Kano State at large have in the APC,” the party spokesperson stated during a briefing following the declaration.
“Hon. Hussaini Yusuf Datti is fully prepared to deliver effective representation and foster development for his constituency.” With the final return of election results by INEC, Datti is expected to be issued a Certificate of Return and subsequently sworn in at the Kano State House of Assembly.
