High tension has gripped Osogbo and Ile-Ife following the fatal shooting of Comrade Olalekan “Dauda” Oyeyemi, popularly known as “Emir Ajagungbade,” an associate and political aide to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, September 13, 2026, during a high-stakes peace meeting aimed at resolving an ongoing leadership tussle over motor park management in the state.
According to eyewitnesses, the meeting took place at the Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife, where representatives gathered to settle control disputes between factions loyal to Oyeyemi and Wakili Nurudeen (popularly known as Alowonle), the current transport leadership head.
During the session, masked gunmen reportedly stormed the venue and shot Oyeyemi directly in the head, killing him instantly. The sudden attack triggered mass panic, causing members of both factions to flee.
In the chaotic aftermath, a vehicle carrying members of the “Emir” group crashed near the OAU Campus Gate while attempting to escape the scene. Following news of the assassination, heightened tension spread to Oyeyemi’s stronghold in the Asoje area of Osogbo, where aggrieved supporters gathered amid fears of reprisal attacks.
Olawale Rasheed (Spokesperson to Governor Ademola Adeleke), Confirmed the tragic incident and issued an official statement condemning the violence. Rasheed urged security agencies to immediately launch a full investigation, locate the perpetrators, and ensure everyone involved is brought to justice.
Pelumi Olajengbesi (Spokesperson, Imole Campaign Council), expressed profound grief over the murder via an official statement, calling the loss of life deeply unfortunate. “The news of the death of Mr. Olalekan Oyeyemi… in Ile-Ife today is deeply unfortunate and painful,” Olajengbesi stated.
“All of us, as a society, have a responsibility to build a culture where violence is not celebrated, where human life is respected, and where strength is measured by character rather than force.” Oyeyemi, a key figure in transport union affairs and local politics in Osun State, had been a controversial political figure.
Though a prominent associate of Governor Adeleke, he was previously declared wanted by law enforcement in 2022 and was facing ongoing legal proceedings at the Federal High Court in Osogbo, where he was granted bail in April 2024.
Security personnel have been deployed to strategic locations across Osogbo and Ile-Ife to restore order and prevent further violence.
