The All Progressives Congress (APC) and entrepreneurs have commended Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu state for the remarkable achievements recorded under his administration in the last three and a half years.
They gave the commendation on Wednesday at the unveiling of the Compendium of Achievements of Mbah Administration, held at the International Conference Centre, Enugu.
Speaking at the event, APC National Chairman, South, Dr Ben Nwoye, said the achievements recorded by the Mbah administration within three years demonstrated the knowledge, intelligence and capacity required to transform the state.
Nwoye urged residents of Enugu to carefully assess the achievements of the administration ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
He said the scale of development documented in the compendium was an indication that Mbah deserved another term to consolidate the projects and reforms already initiated.
The APC chieftain also appealed to residents of Enugu North and Enugu West Senatorial Districts to support the continuation of the administration.
He argued that political succession plans in the state should respect its tradition of allowing governors to serve two terms.
He noted that previous governors of the state, including Chimaroke Nnamani, Sullivan Chime and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, served two terms, stressing that Mbah should also be allowed to complete eight years in office.
Nwoye urged APC members and supporters to commence grassroots mobilisation ahead of the forthcoming elections and ensure that the achievements of the administration were properly communicated to the electorate.
Also speaking, the Enugu State APC Chairman, Dr Martin Chukwunweike, said the party would use the achievements documented in the compendium as a major campaign tool.
Chukwunweike said the performance of the Mbah administration had already contributed to the party’s electoral successes, adding that the same achievements would help the party secure victory in subsequent elections.
The APC chairman added that the party’s victory in the rerun election for Enugu North Senatorial election was influenced by the impact of the governor’s programmes and projects.
He expressed confidence that the party would record another victory in the Sept. 26 local government election.
Speaking on behalf of the organised Private Sector in Enugu, an industrialist and Chairman COPEN Group, Mr Ugo Chime, commended Mbah for what he described as the “powerful, disruptive and innovative work” being carried out by his administration.
Chime said the private sector had earlier recognised Mbah as one of its own who was brought into government to apply private-sector experience to governance.
He commended the governor, his deputy, the Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff and other members of the administration for their sacrifices and commitment to the development of Enugu.
Representing Mbah at the event, the Deputy Governor, Mr Ifeanyi Ossai, said the compendium was part of the administration’s commitment to accountability under the Citizens Charter.
Ossai said Mbah, immediately after assuming office, signed the Citizens Charter as an Executive Order, committing the government to regularly account for how public resources were deployed.
He explained that the unveiling was not merely the presentation of a book but an opportunity for the government to give account of its stewardship and explain what it had done with public resources in the last three and a half years.
According to him, the compendium does not capture the entirety of the administration’s achievements because the documentation had a cut-off period.
He said the administration’s interventions in healthcare, education, infrastructure, agriculture, economic development and other sectors were designed to put Enugu on an “irreversible path of greatness.”
Earlier in his welcome address, the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, said the administration had pursued a development philosophy anchored on vision, courage, discipline, purposeful execution and disruptive innovation.
He said Mbah’s ambition to grow Enugu’s economy from about 4.4 billion dollars to 30 billion dollars within eight years was bold and transformational, adding that the administration had been working to translate the ambition into measurable actions.
