The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) has announced plans to fully digitize all federal expenditures through the Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) system, a move designed to curb systemic corruption, eliminate manual interventions, and bolster the value of the naira.

The disclosure was made on Thursday, September 3, 2026, during the 2026 BAVCCA/BPP Procurement Performance Conference held in Abuja.

The event, themed “Celebrating Successes, Identifying Challenges, and Charting Solutions for Public Procurement Reforms,” was organized by the BPP in partnership with the Bloggers and Vloggers, Content Creators Association of Nigeria (BAVCCA).

Speaking at the event, the Director-General of the BPP, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, represented by the Director of Civil Infrastructure, Engr. Nasir Bello, described the policy as “one of the most ambitious procurement modernization programmes in Nigeria’s history”.

”Procurement is not merely a government process; it is a development instrument, an economic driver, and a powerful catalyst for national transformation. When procurement succeeds, citizens benefit. When procurement fails, development suffers,” Adedokun stated. “This is not simply digitalization; it is a transformation.”

The Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) System Automates end-to-end procurement processes across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). The transition aims to strengthen audit trails, generate real-time monitoring data, and eliminate opportunities for financial leakages that undermine the naira.

The Nigeria First Policy; prioritizes local production, domestic job creation, and industrial growth to retain economic value within Nigeria’s borders.

An Inclusive Procurement Expansion that widens affirmative procurement access for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), youth-led businesses, and women-owned enterprises.

Addressing digital content creators, Dr. Adedokun urged media practitioners to serve as active watchdogs for public resources.

”You are no longer mere observers; you are drivers of public discourse, amplifiers of information, and partners in accountability,” he said, calling on the media to help the public understand how, why, and where public money is spent.

In his remarks, BAVCCA President Ikechukwu Chukwunyere commended the BPP for its aggressive reform agenda while stressing that systemic challenges, such as bid manipulation, capacity gaps, and weak enforcement, must be confronted directly.

Chukwunyere noted that public resources directly impact infrastructure, security, healthcare, and education, emphasizing that responsible digital media engagement is essential to building public confidence in governance.
