Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has pledged to protect the state’s peaceful atmosphere throughout the 2027 electioneering period, urging politicians and their supporters to reject violence, personal attacks, and actions capable of disrupting public order.
The governor issued the call on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, upon returning to Bauchi from an official engagement in Abuja.
Speaking to press corps correspondents during a media briefing at the Government House, Bauchi, Governor Mohammed underscored the critical need for all political entities to strictly observe the electoral guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Governor Mohammed assured that his political platform will fully abide by INEC regulations and state laws governing political engagement, charging rival parties to maintain the same standard.
He emphasized that electioneering should focus on viable policies, public programs, and constructive ideas aimed at improving citizens’ lives, rather than personal attacks or political provocation.
“I have provided a level playing field for political actors in the state, urging them not to take my humility and restraint for granted,” Governor Mohammed stated, addressing newsmen. “All political gladiators should exercise similar self-control and respect the laws of the land.”
The governor disclosed that some of his campaign billboards and posters had recently been destroyed by political opponents. However, he noted that he deliberately chose not to retaliate despite security reports identifying those responsible.
He cautioned that his restraint must not be mistaken for weakness, stressing that as a leader, he will not misuse state power to persecute opponents or settle political scores.
Highlighting Bauchi’s long-standing reputation for peaceful coexistence, the governor outlined key expectations for various public institutions as political activities scale up across the state:
Security agencies and traditional rulers called upon to remain completely neutral, fair, and impartial throughout the campaign cycle.
Political actors and supporters are urged to show mutual respect, observe strict self-restraint, and ensure political interests do not trigger security unrest.
In a follow-up statement backing the governor’s directives, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, reaffirmed that the state administration remains fully committed to preserving public safety.
Gidado emphasized that the government will collaborate closely with law enforcement bodies to enforce regulations and sanction any individuals or groups attempting to jeopardize Bauchi’s stability during the 2027 political season.
