President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm birthday felicitations to Vice-President Kashim Shettima on his 60th birthday, commending him as a trusted partner, devoted patriot, and valued pillar of governance.
The presidential tribute was contained in an official press statement released at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from the State House in Abuja by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
In the tribute, issued ahead of the Vice-President’s Diamond Jubilee on Wednesday, September 2, President Tinubu celebrated Shettima’s leadership journey, tracing his achievements from a distinguished banking career to his transformative two terms as Governor of Borno State, his tenure in the Senate, and his current role in national executive leadership.
”Kashim is not just a trusted ally or a valued colleague, but also a patriot whose life has been defined by service, commitment, and sacrifice for worthy causes,” President Tinubu stated. “I am confident that working together, we will continue to make meaningful progress in building the Nigeria of our dreams.”
The President specifically lauded Shettima’s stewardship as Chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC), highlighting his key role in coordinating sub-national economic development and steering the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, also issued a congratulatory statement through her media office, offering “60 Hearty Cheers” to the Vice-President and celebrating his steadfast loyalty and public service alongside his wife, Her Excellency Hajia Nana Shettima.
Despite reaching a major milestone, Vice-President Shettima has requested well-wishers to forgo lavish celebrations, public gatherings, or paid media advertorials.
Speaking via a statement from Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice-President), Shettima urged Nigerians to channel their goodwill into prayers for national unity, peace, and the success of ongoing economic reforms.
