The Federal Government of Nigeria announced on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, that the nation’s economy is gaining steady momentum toward reaching its target of a $1 trillion Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2030.

This statement follows official figures published on Monday, August 31, 2026, by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) at its headquarters in Abuja.

The NBS report revealed that Nigeria’s real GDP expanded by 4.43 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026. The performance represents a notable acceleration from the 3.89 percent growth recorded in Q1 2026 and 4.23 percent in Q2 2025.

In an official statement released on Tuesday from the Federal Ministry of Finance headquarters in Central Business District, Abuja, spokesperson for the ministry outlined the government’s economic projections.

The Ministry highlighted that the strong Q2 performance lifted real GDP growth for the first half of 2026 (H1) to 4.16 percent, compared to 3.68 percent in H1 2025.

According to government officials, the gains were driven by a stabilizing local currency and broad-based sectoral expansion.

The Federal Government emphasized that with sustained policy reforms, stable exchange rates, and improving investor confidence, Nigeria remains on track to achieve its long-term target of building a $1 trillion economy by 2030.
