The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Katsina State Chapter, has urged engineers to continuously update their knowledge and skills to remain relevant in the profession.
The society said rapid advances in technology and infrastructure demand meant engineers could no longer rely on old practices.
The state Chairman, Mr Bahsir Shamsudeen, made the call at the end of a three-day technical workshop on Sunday.
The source reports that the workshop was organised for members to strengthen professional competence and promote knowledge sharing among engineers.
The workshop featured specialised sessions in Mechanical, Electrical and Civil Engineering.
Shamsudeen said the programme was designed to promote continuous professional development and expose participants to emerging trends and best practices in engineering.
He described capacity building as critical to producing competent professionals capable of providing practical solutions to developmental and infrastructural challenges.
‘’The workshop will also provide a platform for experienced professionals and younger engineers to interact, exchange ideas and learn from one another.
A facilitator at the workshop, Abubakar Yusuf-Maiwada, led participants through technical discussions and practical issues relating to the various engineering disciplines.
Yusuf-Maiwada urged the participants to apply their professional knowledge and expertise toward addressing challenges confronting their communities and the country.
He said engineers had a critical role to play in advancing technology, infrastructure and sustainable development.
Also, the sponsor of the programme, Alhaji Babangida Inuwa, said the workshop was deliberately structured to give adequate attention to each of the three major engineering disciplines covered.
Inuwa is the Chairman of Telemax Engineering Services.
He said the initiative would strengthen interaction among professionals and encourage the transfer of knowledge between experienced engineers and younger practitioners.
Inuwa urged the participants to justify the confidence reposed in them by members of the society through professionalism, discipline and adherence to ethical standards.
He announced plans to sponsor the overall best participant at the workshop for further training anywhere within the country.
Inuwa reaffirmed commitment to sustaining similar capacity-building programmes to strengthen the competence of engineers and support the development of the state and Nigeria as a whole.
The sessions provided participants with opportunities to share experiences, examine emerging technologies and explore practical approaches to improving engineering practice.
Some participants commended the NSE Katsina Chapter for organising the workshop, describing it as an important platform for professional development, knowledge sharing and the promotion of engineering excellence.
They expressed optimism that the knowledge gained would enhance their capacity to contribute more effectively to infrastructural and technological development.
