The Media Office of the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has strongly condemned what it described as a coordinated and false “northern whisper campaign” designed to discredit him ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a official statement released on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the NDC Campaign Headquarters in Abuja, the Media Office challenged political opponents behind the covert strategy to provide verifiable evidence or immediately cease the campaign of calumny.
The press release, signed by the Chief Spokesperson of the Peter Obi Media Office, Ibrahim Umar, highlighted that political adversaries unable to challenge Obi on his record of public service, competence, and integrity are resorting to ethnic suspicion and misinformation.
”Despite clear facts, some individuals continue covertly planting these false narratives at Northern gatherings, hoping repeated claims will eventually seem convincing.
We challenge those behind this campaign to provide names, dates, records, and verifiable evidence supporting their allegations. They should cease hiding behind whispered accusations and political propaganda,” the statement read.
Obi’s media office rebukes misrepresentation of Obi’s past record as Anambra State Governor, specifically false accusations regarding his administration’s relationship with Northern residents and traders.
His media office urged citizens in Northern Nigeria to reject unverified rumors and focus on issue-based politics, economic recovery, national security, and competent leadership.
The statement emphasized that Obi’s governance model in Anambra State was inclusive, serving all residents regardless of ethnicity or religion, and noted that Northern Nigeria remains central to Obi’s vision for transforming the nation from a consumption-driven to a production-based economy.
