The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Enugu Chapter on Wednesday donated food items and other materials to the Enugu State Family Support Programme (FSP) Children’s Home.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the donation was part of activities marking the 2026 International Actors Day aimed supporting children in need.
The Chairman of AGN Enugu Chapter, Brown Ene said the celebration was to demonstrate that actors had responsibilities beyond entertaining audiences on screen.
Ene said the celebration commenced with activities such as traffic management, environmental sanitation in parts of Enugu among others.
“We want to prove that beyond being actors and acting on screen, we have responsibilities.
“We are fathers, grandfathers and civil servants doing different jobs apart from interpreting characters on screen”.
He noted that the International Actors Day is celebrated globally while the 2026 edition marked its inaugural celebration in Nigeria.
“AGN, as a member of the Federation of International Actors (FIA), joined actors across the world to celebrate the day.
“I appeal to actors in Enugu to participate actively in activities of the guild as their contributions are important to its growth and members’ welfare”.
Clement Anigbo, National Vice President, AGN, Southeast Zone, said the celebration was an opportunity for actors to impact positively on the society.
Anigbo called on the government to invest more in the creative industry and improve the welfare of actors, particularly the aged and sick practitioners.
“We appeal for reforms that would enable Nigerian actors benefit from royalties from films in which they participated.
“Government should invest in the creative industry through enhancing actors’ welfare, promoting film production, sponsorship of good cinemas among others”.
Chidimma Aneke, an Actress described the celebration as a welcome development, noting that it was important for actors to appreciate themselves and give back to the society.
The Coordinator of the FSP Children’s Home, Mrs Ngozi Oguejiofor, while receiving the items, appreciated the actors for remembering the children.
Oguejiofo said the home welcomed support from individuals and organisations because the children needed assistance in different areas.
“The home is not only for motherless children, but also fatherless children, orphans, vulnerable children and those with special needs, such as down syndrome and cerebral palsy”.
NAN reports that items donated by the guild include: indomie, biscuits, drinks, toiletries among others.
