The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Bauchi State Council has called on security agencies  to respect the Constitutional rights of journalists.

The call is contained in a statement signed by Malam Umar Saidu, the  Chairman and Isha Garba Secretary of NUJ Bauchi Council on Tuesday in Bauchi.

This followed alleged assault of a reporter at the Yankari Game Reserve by a Department of State Service (DSS) officer.

The union allegd that the officer slapped Bashir Adamu, who works with the Bauchi Radio Corporation three times during an official engagement at the reserve.

“The incident occurred during the commissioning of a 500KVA solar power station.

“The officer was attached to a visiting delegation from the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC)’.

The union described the alleged conduct of the officer as unacceptable.

It also called for investigation and appropriate disciplinary action against the officer.

“We will continue to protect our members from intimidation”.
