The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has strongly condemned the mounting post-election violence across key municipalities in Osun State, expressing deep grief over the tragic loss of lives and destruction of property following the recent electoral contests.
​In an official statement released in Osogbo, the former Osun State Governor called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and urged security agencies to swiftly restore order to prevent further bloodshed.
​Reports of violent clashes, targeted attacks, and political reprisals have surged across several local government areas, most notably within Osogbo, Ede, and Ilesa. Violent skirmishes erupted following the official declaration of election results, leading to several reported casualties and leaving residents in fear of further unrest.
​The Minister highlighted that the ongoing violence undermines the peace, stability, and democratic progress that the people of Osun have worked tirelessly to build.
​Speaking through his media aide, Ismail Omipidan, in a press statement issued on Tuesday morning, 25 August, Oyetola expressed profound condolences to the families of the victims while warning that political disagreements must never be allowed to degenerate into violence.
​”No political ambition or post-election grievance is worth the life of any citizen of Osun State,” Omipidan quoted the Minister as saying. “We must prioritize the sanctity of human life and the peace of our state above all political considerations. I urge all political actors, community leaders, and youths to exercise utmost restraint and allow the law to take its course.”
​Oyetola further charged the Osun State Police Command and complementary security agencies to conduct a thorough, unbiased investigation into the root causes of the clashes and ensure all perpetrators, regardless of political affiliation, are brought to justice.
​Following the Minister’s statement, joint security forces have stepped up patrols across major hotspots, including key transit corridors and commercial centers in the state capital.
Local authorities have advised residents to remain calm, report suspicious movements, and abide by any safety directives issued by security personnel as peace-building measures continue.
