The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on citizens nationwide to embed mercy, compassion, justice, and peaceful coexistence into their everyday lives as Muslim faithful mark this year’s Eid-el-Maulud celebration.
​The appeal was issued in an official press statement released on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, from CAN’s national headquarters in Abuja. The message, personally signed by CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh, congratulated Muslims across Nigeria while offering prayers for peace and prosperity across all communities.
Archbishop Okoh noted that the birth of Prophet Muhammad serves as a timeless reminder for citizens of all beliefs to reflect on core human values, including honesty, care for the vulnerable, and mutual respect.
​Highlighting the economic challenges and security concerns confronting Nigerian households, Archbishop Okoh stated that moral reflection must translate into active, responsive governance.
​”The pressure of rising living costs and insecurity is being felt in homes and communities across the country,” Okoh stated. “People are tired of promises; they want to see their lives improve. I therefore urge the Federal Government and leaders at all levels to move from promises to visible action. Nigerians need greater security, economic relief, and leadership that puts their welfare first”.
​He added that true leadership is evaluated by real-world impact rather than rhetoric, stressing that “leadership is not measured by what we promise, but by what Nigerians can see and feel”.
​Looking ahead toward the 2027 general elections, the CAN President urged political actors to avoid exploiting ethnic or religious sentiments for electoral advantage.
​Warning against political division, Okoh stressed that “elections will come and go, but the bonds that hold Nigeria together must remain”. He called on Christians and Muslims alike to reject divisive rhetoric, protect human dignity, and work collectively to build a safe, peaceful, and prosperous nation.
