President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described the N296 billion reconstruction and dualisation of the 56.5-kilometre Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode road as a pivotal step in advancing economic integration, regional trade, and infrastructure-led development across the South-West region.
Speaking on Monday, August 24, 2026, at the official flag-off ceremony held at the open field of Legacy Estate along the Idi Ayunre axis in Ibadan, Oyo State, President Tinubu emphasized that the critical corridor connecting Oyo and Ogun states was far too strategically significant for the Federal Government to neglect.
”Today demonstrates the flag-off of the 56.5km Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode road. It is more than just a flag-off; it is a connection between the two states economically,” President Tinubu stated.
For decades, farmers, manufacturers, students, and other residents have depended on the use of this road. This project reflects the commitment of the Federal Government to delivering safer roads for the people of the country.”
The N295.99 billion contract, which was previously approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) and awarded to JRB Construction Company Limited, forms part of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at modernizing Nigeria’s transit networks.
Also addressing attendees at the venue, the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, highlighted that the project aims to ease commuter movement, strengthen the Lagos–Ogun economic corridor, and expand regional agricultural trade.
Umahi noted that the dualisation project underscores the value of institutional collaboration between federal authorities, state governments, and traditional institutions, including the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, who was invited to witness the milestone event.
Once completed, the dualised corridor will enhance transit capacity, reduce travel times, and provide smoother access for goods and services across the agrarian and industrial hubs of the South-West.
