The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially lifted the ultimatum issued to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (representing Abia North) and Representative Chris Nkwonta (representing Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency) following high-level party deliberations over alleged anti-party activities.
​The decision was made public on Sunday, August 23, during a press conference convened at the APC State Secretariat along Azikiwe Road, Umuahia.
Addressing journalists and party stakeholders, the Abia State APC Publicity Secretary, Offor Okorie, stated that the state executive committee resolved to withdraw the 14-day ultimatum after interventions by national leaders and an internal review of the situation.
​”The leadership of the APC in Abia State, after consultations with our national executives and elders of the party, has resolved to lift the ultimatum issued to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Hon. Chris Nkwonta,” Okorie announced.
“Our priority remains party unity, discipline, and building a formidable front ahead of upcoming electoral engagements.”
​The controversy stems from statements attributed to the two lawmakers, which party executives previously flagged as anti-party remarks regarding the state governor, Alex Otti. The party leadership had issued a 14-day deadline demanding a public apology from both lawmakers.
​When questioned about potential disciplinary measures going forward, Okorie noted that internal reconciliation mechanisms have been activated to resolve lingering grievances and ensure alignment with party objectives in the state.
