The Ministry of Defence has officially lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, as the Deputy Director of Security and Intelligence I for the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Presidential Campaign Council.
The commendation was contained in an official statement issued on Sunday, August 23, 2026, from the Ministry’s headquarters at the Ship House, Abuja. Speaking on behalf of the ministry, Director of Press and Public Relations, Henshaw Ogubike, described the appointment as a testament to Matawalle’s strategic acumen, exceptional leadership, and unwavering commitment to national security.
According to the ministry, Matawalle’s strategic inclusion in the campaign council’s intelligence architecture underscores the administration’s trust in his capacity to handle national security intelligence and safeguard political processes ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ogubike emphasized that Matawalle’s experience as a former governor of Zamfara State and current Minister of State for Defence equips him with deep insights into Nigeria’s complex security dynamics.
