Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a direct warning to Saudi Arabia on Thursday, August 20, 2026, stating that the kingdom will be unable to suppress or protect itself from mounting attacks by Tehran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Speaking to Iran’s state-affiliated Defa Press, IRGC spokesman Brigadier General Hossein Mohebi declared that Riyadh’s military efforts to neutralize the Yemeni group also known as Ansarullah are failing.
“Saudi Arabia will certainly be unable to contain Yemen and Ansarullah or remain safe from their attacks,” Mohebi said in an official statement. “As we have seen in recent days, the more Saudi Arabia attacks, the more it is hit in return.”
The statement was delivered directly to defense news agency Defa Press in Tehran on Thursday morning. IRGC Spokesperson Brigadier General Hossein Mohebi highlighted that the Houthis’ offensive and defensive capabilities continue to expand, leaving the Saudi-led Coalition increasingly vulnerable.
The warning comes amid a sharp intensification of cross-border strikes, with Houthi forces deploying advanced drone and missile technologies targeting strategic and economic infrastructure inside Saudi Arabia.
The escalation further destabilizes the Arabian Peninsula, threatening a fragile diplomatic framework and heightening security concerns across Red Sea trade routes.
This statement comes after the U.S. President Donald Trump has declared an “Economic D-Day” against Iran, promising to launch the “most crushing economic operation ever taken against any country”.
The campaign involves broad global secondary sanctions aimed at isolating Iran’s economy and shutting down its remaining commercial channels. Trump explicitly warned that any country allowing its businesses, airports, financial institutions, or government entities to offer a “lifeline” to Tehran will face “TREMENDOUS Economic Consequences.”
