MultiChoice Nigeria has addressed public speculation regarding its management structure following its acquisition by French media giant CANAL+, clarifying that its commercial strategies and operational decisions remain strictly controlled by its local leadership.

The announcement was made during a press briefing on Monday, August 17, 2026, held at the company’s corporate office in Victoria Island, Lagos.

Addressing journalists and corporate stakeholders, Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, Kemi Omotosho, clarified that key commercial levering, including subscription rates, channel bundling, local programming investments, and regional distribution networks—continue to be set within Nigeria rather than dictated from overseas.

”MultiChoice Nigeria operates as part of that global group, but our business here remains firmly focused on Nigeria, our customers, our people, our partners, and our local creative industry,” Omotosho stated. “The principle is quite simple: we think globally, but we act locally.”

Omotosho noted that misconceptions often arise when domestic companies integrate into international conglomerates. However, she stressed that the local executive team overseeing DStv and GOtv possesses the direct market insight necessary to navigate Nigeria’s unique macroeconomic conditions and consumer purchasing trends.

Core Pillars of the Operational Strategy include Market-Aligned Pricing; Subscription tiers and packaging strategies will continue to be evaluated against domestic economic realities rather than unified global rates.

Funding for Nigerian original content, sports rights, and regional production talent will remain a primary focus for the broadcaster.

While local leadership retains operational control, MultiChoice Nigeria will draw upon CANAL+’s technological scale to upgrade streaming infrastructure, while also exporting high-performing Nigerian media concepts across the broader global network.

Omotosho concluded by explaining that combining CANAL+’s global technical capabilities with MultiChoice’s local domain expertise builds essential resilience against ongoing macroeconomic challenges, ensuring that service quality and consumer access remain balanced across the country.
