The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory in the Osun State governorship election as an “advance payment” made by Nigerians against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), warning that the final balance will be delivered in the 2027 general elections.

The opposition party made the statement during a press briefing at its National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, in Abuja on Sunday.

Speaking on behalf of the party, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Debo Ologunagba, stated that the election outcome in Osun is a direct reflection of public discontent with the APC-led Federal Government.

”The outcome of the Osun governorship election is a clear, resounding declaration by Nigerians that they have had enough of the suffering, economic hardship, and bad governance brought upon the country by the APC,” Ologunagba said. “Governor Ademola Adeleke’s triumphant victory is an advance payment by the good people of Nigeria against the ruling party. The full balance and final quit notice will be served to the APC across the entire federation in the 2027 general elections.”

The PDP commended the people of Osun State for turning out to defend their democratic mandate despite political pressure and logistics challenges.

The party spokesperson also highlighted key demands for the upcoming electoral cycles. The PDP urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to build on transparent polling practices and ensure the uncompromised transmission of results in future polls.

Security agencies were commended for maintaining order and were called upon to remain neutral in all subsequent off-cycle and general elections. Ologunagba reassured party faithful that the victory in Osun marks the beginning of a re-energized PDP determined to reclaim power at the center in 2027.

In a swift reaction, national representatives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed the PDP’s comments, describing them as empty bravado. The ruling party maintained that local state dynamics shaped the Osun election outcome and argued that it does not serve as a barometer for the 2027 presidential and federal elections.

As political maneuvering intensifies ahead of 2027, the PDP insists that the political tide in the Southwest and across Nigeria has turned firmly against the ruling party.
