The United States Department of State has revoked more than 175,000 visas held by foreign nationals following continuous vetting operations under President Donald Trump’s administration.
Official statements confirm that the revocations target immigration offenders, individuals facing criminal charges, and non-citizens deemed a threat to national security or public safety.
​According to the State Department, the decisions stem from law enforcement encounters involving various criminal offences, including driving under the influence, assault, theft, drug-related crimes, sexual offences, child abuse, and major financial fraud. Revocations were also applied to individuals involved in illegal birth tourism schemes, immigration system abuse, and public calls for or endorsements of violence against American citizens.
​In a statement highlighting specific cases, US officials cited visa cancellations for individuals implicated in severe charges such as human trafficking, sexual battery, felony kidnapping, child sexual abuse material, and multi-million-dollar healthcare and investor fraud. Visas were also revoked for several individuals who publicly celebrated political violence or voiced violent threats against US leadership.
​US Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that visa revocations extend to foreign policy grounds, referencing actions against individuals connected to foreign political regimes, pardoned sex offenders, and foreign nationals expressing overt hostility toward the United States. The State Department emphasized that receiving a US visa remains a privilege rather than an absolute right.
​The administration reaffirmed its commitment to utilizing continuous background screening and legal enforcement tools to strip credentials from non-citizens who violate visa terms or commit criminal acts. Federal authorities stated that rigorous vetting procedures will remain active to protect American communities and enforce strict adherence to immigration laws.
