​The Plateau State Police Command has arrested a clergyman and two serving security personnel over an alleged conspiracy to kidnap the wives of two prominent bishops in Jos.
​The arrest was carried out at approximately 2:10 p.m. on August 7, 2026, following actionable intelligence intercepted by security operatives regarding a planned high-profile abduction in the state capital.
​According to statements and security reports confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Alfred Alabo, police detectives acted swiftly to foil the operation before the suspects could execute their plan.
​The targets of the aborted plot were the wives of Bishop Ephraim Gongden and retired Bishop Benjamin Kwashi, both residing in the Rantya community of Jos South Local Government Area.
​The Plateau State Police Command identified the primary suspects involved in the conspiracy as Rev. Hassan Yunisim Mijah (42), a resident of Tudun Wada, Jos North LGA, alleged to be the mastermind behind the plot. Sgt. Ezra Sunday, a serving member of the Nigerian Air Force and OS Usman Khalid: A serving personnel with the Nigerian Navy.
​Both military personnel were attached to Sector 1 of Operation Enduring Peace in Jos at the time of their arrest.
​The suspects remain in custody while the investigation continues at the Command’s Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) to establish the full extent of the network and determine whether additional accomplices were involved.
​The Acting Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, DCP Usman Sheikh Adamu, commended the intelligence-led approach of the operatives and reiterated the command’s commitment to riding the state of criminal elements, regardless of their status or affiliation. Authorities have urged residents to maintain vigilance and continue sharing timely information with law enforcement agencies.
