The Accord Party has urged the Federal Government to avoid militarising the forthcoming Osun State governorship election, saying the exercise should be conducted peacefully and democratically.
The party said the deployment of security personnel should be aimed at protecting voters and maintaining law and order rather than intimidating voters or creating fear among residents.
Accord expressed concern over what it described as excessive security presence around electoral activities, warning that such actions could undermine public confidence in the electoral process.
The party called on security agencies to remain neutral and professional throughout the election, urging them to protect all political parties and voters equally without favouring any candidate or group.
It also appealed to political parties and their supporters to avoid violence, intimidation and other actions capable of disrupting the election, stressing that the people of Osun should be allowed to freely choose their leaders.
