The crisis in the Labour Party (LP) in Adamawa State has deepened following the rejection of the suspension of the state Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Zira, by a faction of the party.
The faction, led by the party’s 2023 governorship candidate, Mr Umar Mustapha, described the suspension as illegal and accused those behind it of acting outside the party’s constitution. The group said the state chairman remained in office, arguing that the officials who announced his suspension lacked the authority to remove him.
It urged party members and supporters to disregard the announcement. The faction also called for unity among party members, saying internal disputes should be resolved through the appropriate organs of the party rather than through unilateral actions.
The development has to the legitimate authority to run the affairs of the party in the state.
