FG To Pay Outstanding Wage Award Before Mid-August

The Federal Government has assured public servants that the outstanding wage award will be paid before the middle of August, while efforts are ongoing to settle promotion arrears.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Taiwo Oyedele, gave the assurance during a meeting with the leadership of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JPSNC), Trade Side, led by its National President, Mr Kabiru Ado Minjibir.

Oyedele said the necessary release for payment of the outstanding wage award was being concluded, adding that eligible public servants should begin receiving the payment before the middle of the month.

He also assured workers that outstanding promotion arrears were being processed in line with established procedures. The minister directed relevant officials to review documents presented by the council and accelerate action on outstanding issues requiring government intervention.

He said the government remained committed to resolving legitimate labour concerns through constructive engagement. The Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Federal Ministry of Finance, Mr Mohammed Sanusi Danjuma, said Batch 7 promotion arrears, which was omitted from an earlier payment exercise, was being processed alongside Batch 9.

He added that the government was also working to address the Peculiar Allowance and other outstanding labour-related matters.
