In a major effort to boost disaster preparedness and safeguard lives and property, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has inducted 150 newly trained firefighters into the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS).
The induction took place on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, alongside the official commissioning of the newly constructed Oworonshoki Fire Station.
The 150 recruits (designated as Squad 23) successfully completed a rigorous, six-month intensive course covering professional basic firefighting competencies, modern emergency response techniques, and operational rescue procedures.
With the launch of the Oworonshoki Fire Station, the Sanwo-Olu administration has now delivered 11 newly established public fire stations, in addition to one operated via a public-private partnership.
Controller-General Margaret Adeseye noted this recruitment marks the third major intake under the current administration, following 100 officers in 2020 and 435 officers in 2022, bringing the total newly recruited personnel under Governor Sanwo-Olu to 685 officers.
“This latest induction underscores our unwavering commitment to building a resilient, well-equipped, and operationally swift emergency response unit capable of serving the rapidly growing population of Lagos State.” said Margaret Adeseye, the Controller-General, LSFRS.
