The Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso, has ordered a comprehensive and immediate investigation following the viral outbreak of a video on social media depicting four security personnel forcefully shoving an unidentified young man into the boot of an operational vehicle.
​The incident occurred along Human Race Road, Nekede, within the Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State during the weekend. ​ According to video recordings circulating online, the four uniformed personnel were captured physically assaulting and subduing the young man before forcing him into the trunk of a sedan.
Eyewitnesses along Human Race Road reported that the incident sparked panic among residents and bystanders, with many raising concerns over human rights violations and high-handedness by enforcement officers. ​
In an official statement issued by the Imo State Police Command on Tuesday, CP Audu Garba Bosso directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and the Command’s X-Squad unit to identify, arrest, and investigate all personnel involved in the incident.
​”The Command maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy toward high-handedness, human rights violations, extortion, and unprofessional conduct. Any officer found culpable in this unacceptable act will face internal disciplinary mechanisms, orderly room trials, and appropriate legal sanction,” the Command reaffirmed. ​
The Imo State Police Command has assured members of the public that the outcome of the investigation will be made public and urged citizens with additional footage or information to assist investigators.
