The National Population Commission (NPC) has officially kicked off full digital registration of births and deaths across Benue State under its newly integrated Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (E-CRVS) system.

The state-wide rollout, which became operational this week, expands the digital vital statistics framework across all 23 Local Government Areas, 273 council wards, and 79 designated registration centres in Benue.

Speaking at the state headquarters in Makurdi on Thursday, officials confirmed that the transition from paper-based tracking to the digital E-CRVS system aims to modernize population data collection, eliminate duplicate registrations, and ensure every child’s legal identity is established from birth.

All 23 LGAs, including Makurdi, Gboko, Otukpo, and Katsina-Ala, are now actively linked to the central e-CRVS portal.

Citizens can access registration services across 273 political wards and 79 specialized registration centres situated in primary healthcare facilities and NPC offices statewide.

The system generates a digital certificate featuring a unique National Identification Number (NIN) link and QR code, streamlining verification for civil services, education, and national planning.

The NPC emphasized that the E-CRVS platform will significantly boost real-time data accuracy for government development plans, medical intervention programs, and demographic tracking throughout the state. Residents across all wards are encouraged to visit their nearest registration centre to register vital events promptly.
