Police on Wednesday arraigned four staff members of G-World Supermarket, Kubwa, Abuja, before a Dutse Magistrates’ Court over alleged misappropriation of N2 million.
The defendants, Mercy Onuh, 31; Benedict Alexander, 26; Emmanuel Matthew, 19; and Comfort Adejoh, 26, are facing charges bordering on joint act, criminal breach of trust and misappropriation. They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecuting counsel, Mr Okpa Otobha, told the court that the Chief Security Officer of the supermarket, Isaac Haruna, reported the matter at the Dutse Alhaji Police Station on June 24, following information from the Managing Director of the supermarket, Mr Obasi. He alleged that the defendants, who were assigned to the Lagash Stand section, conspired to misappropriate N2 million.
Otobha said N14,700 was recovered from three of the defendants during police investigations, adding that they allegedly failed to provide satisfactory explanations for their actions. He said the offences contravened Sections 79, 314 and 309 of the Penal Code.
The Senior Magistrate, Mrs Evelyn Dara, admitted each defendant to bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in like sum. She ordered that the sureties must have reliable means of identification and reside within the court’s jurisdiction, and adjourned the case until August 3rd for hearing.
