The Uburu Traditional Rulers Council in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has declared a dawn-to-dusk curfew across the community to conduct a spiritual cleansing exercise following the controversial death of a young woman, Mary Habila, at the residence of the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi.
​The traditional council announced that all economic and social activities across Uburu town will be strictly suspended during the mandatory curfew period. Residents have been directed to remain indoors while traditional leaders and elders perform rites intended to purge the community of spiritual contamination and restore peace to the land.
Details of the instruction includes Curfew Hours, from dawn to dusk across all autonomous communities within Uburu. There will be total shutdown of local markets, commercial transit, and public gatherings.
The purpose for this curfew is to perform a community-wide ritual to cleansed the land of desecration following recent tragic events.
​The decision comes weeks after the death of Mary Habila at the country home of Senator David Umahi sparked widespread public concern, police investigations, and community tension. Traditional leaders emphasized that the ritual is a necessary step to honor ancestral customs and invoke peace across the kingdom.
​Local security personnel and traditional vigilante groups have been tasked with monitoring compliance throughout the duration of the curfew.
