At least two people have died following severe flooding in central Texas, as emergency responders continued rescue operations in communities along the Guadalupe River after days of torrential rainfall.
Authorities said the flooding, which affected parts of the Texas Hill Country, triggered flash flood emergencies, forced evacuations and left roads, bridges and homes submerged. Hundreds of people were rescued by boat and helicopter as floodwaters swept through several communities.
The latest disaster has drawn comparisons with the devastating floods that struck the same region in July 2025, claiming more than 100 lives. Officials said improvements to flood warning systems and emergency preparedness helped save lives during this year’s flooding, although concerns remain over protecting vulnerable communities.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott said emergency personnel remained on the ground to assist affected residents, while authorities urged people in flood-prone areas to avoid travelling through flooded roads and to comply with evacuation orders and official safety advisories.
Rescue and recovery operations were continuing on Friday as officials assessed the full extent of the damage and monitored weather conditions for the possibility of further flooding.
