No fewer than 3 people have died, while 5,403 others have been affected, following a windstorm accompanied by heavy rainfall in Jigawa State.
The Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mr Hannafi Yakubu, disclosed this in Dutse on Wednesday, saying the disaster affected 120 communities across 13 local government areas, including 47 public schools, 3 health facilities and two police stations.
Yakubu said the figures were compiled from the onset of the rainy season, adding that the affected local government areas include Dutse, Gwaram, Birnin Kudu, Kiyawa, Babura, Gumel, Kaugama, Ringim, Gagarawa, Kirikasamma, Sule Tankarkar, Miga and Buji.
He said the state government had distributed relief materials to affected residents to cushion the impact of the disaster and alleviate their suffering.
Yakubu appealed to philanthropists, corporate organisations and donor agencies to support the victims, reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting vulnerable communities through proactive emergency response measures.
