The Street Child Care and Welfare Initiative (SCCWI) has called for an immediate end to child labour, urging governments, communities, employers and families to work together to protect the rights and welfare of children.
The President of the organisation, Comfort Alli, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, saying child labour continued to deprive millions of children of their childhood, dignity and future opportunities.
Alli said the appeal formed part of the organisation’s activities to commemorate the 2026 World Day Against Child Labour, with the theme, “Red Card to Child Labour: Fair Play for Children, Decent Work for Adults.”
She urged stakeholders to address the root causes of child labour, including poverty, limited access to quality education and inadequate social protection, to ensure every child enjoys the right to education, protection and a safe environment.
According to her, SCCWI remains committed to promoting children’s rights and policies that enable every child to learn, play and realise their full potential, while calling on Nigerians to unite against child exploitation.
