A Police Inspector attached to the Operations Department of the Enugu State Police Command Headquarters, Dr. Obodo Paul Ikechukwu, has died following a fatal road accident in Enugu, with the state police command dismissing reports that a police convoy has been linked to the incident.
Dr. Obodo, a native of Nkpologu in Enugu State and a PhD holder, reportedly sustained fatal injuries in the accident, which occurred under circumstances that remain unclear.
Initial reports alleged that the officer was struck by a vehicle believed to be part of a police convoy, sparking widespread reactions. However, the Enugu State Police Command said there is currently no evidence to support those claims.
Reacting to the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Daniel Ndukwe, expressed sadness over the officer’s death while urging the public to allow investigators to establish the facts.
“Losing a police officer or any other person in such circumstances is deeply disheartening and must be thoroughly investigated. However, there is no evidence establishing that a police convoy was involved in the fatal hit-and-run motor-pedestrian accident at this time,” Ndukwe said.
He added that investigations into the incident were ongoing.
“The matter remains under investigation, and further details will be communicated as they become available, please.”
Dr. Obodo was widely described by colleagues and associates as a dedicated and professional officer whose sudden death has left members of the Enugu State Police Command and his community in mourning.
The police command has assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
