Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has directed that the contractor and consultant handling the Model Technical College project in Irri, Isoko South Local Government Area, appear before him to explain the project’s seven year delay.
The directive followed the governor’s inspection of the project on Monday, during which he expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of work, saying the delay had denied the state the opportunity to begin academic activities at the institution as planned.
Oborevwori said he had expected the college to admit its first set of students by September, but noted that the slow progress on the project had made the target unattainable.
“I will invite the contractor and the consultant because the consultant is not doing enough,” the governor said.
“The consultant is supposed to keep the client informed about the progress of work and ensure proper supervision. From what I have seen, the supervision is very poor and I am not satisfied.”
He attributed the delay largely to poor project supervision and warned that his administration would no longer tolerate abandoned or unnecessarily delayed government projects.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering quality infrastructure within agreed timelines, stressing that contractors must be held accountable for projects awarded with public funds.
The Model Technical College is one of the Delta State Government’s education projects aimed at strengthening technical and vocational education and equipping young people with practical skills.
Government officials are expected to meet with the contractor and consultant in the coming days to review the project’s challenges, agree on revised timelines and accelerate its completion.
