The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra Sector Command, has advised parents and guardians to always secure babies with back seat belt while driving to prevent injuries in case of road crash.
The FRSC Sector Commander, Mrs Bridget Asekhauno, gave the advice on Sunday during a road safety outreach at Jesus is Alive Church, Eziowelle.
According to her, the outreach is part of the corps’ efforts to promote road safety and reduce traffic crashes.
Addressing the worshippers on the theme, “Getting to Your Destination Safely is in Your Hands,” Asekhauno said most road crashes were caused by human actions rather than supernatural forces.
“Parents should always secure their babies in the back seat while driving.
“It is one of the simplest but most effective ways to protect children in the event of a crash,” Asekhauno said.
She also cautioned motorists against using mobile phones while driving and overloading vehicles, stressing that such practices significantly increased the risk of crashes.
The sector commander urged all road users to obey traffic laws and regulations and encouraged worshippers to spread road safety messages within their communities.
She emphasised the importance of obeying road signs and markings, noting that they were designed to guide, warn and protect motorists and other road users from accidents.
Asekhauno reaffirmed the command’s commitment to promoting road safety across the state and urged motorists to make safety a priority at all times.
Responding, the General Overseer (GO) of the Church, Archbishop Onyekachukwu Nzekwesi, commended the FRSC on the enlightenment and urged members of the congregation to comply with traffic rules and regulations.
The GO also prayed for God’s protection over the sector commander and other FRSC personnel ,as they discharged their duties and appreciated the corps for the safety awareness initiative.
