The Enugu State Government has announced plans to sanction individuals and organisations that violate environmental sanitation regulations as part of efforts to improve waste management and maintain a cleaner environment.
The Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA) said the enforcement drive would be complemented by increased stakeholder engagement to encourage compliance with sanitation laws across the state.
According to the authority, offenders who fail to pay sanitation levies, dispose of waste indiscriminately or violate environmental sanitation regulations will face sanctions in accordance with the state’s environmental laws.
ESWAMA said it would continue to engage residents, community leaders, local government councils and private waste operators to strengthen waste management services and promote environmental cleanliness.
The authority also urged residents to dispose of refuse properly, pay approved sanitation charges through official channels and participate in environmental sanitation exercises.
It reiterated the state government’s commitment to enforcing sanitation regulations while promoting public awareness on the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
