The Oodua Youth Coalition (OYC) has urged regulatory authorities to strengthen consumer protection in Nigeria’s telecommunications sector amid growing concerns over data charges and subscription billing.

The coalition’s Vice President (Administration), Mr Olatunji Adejuwon, said on Wednesday that consumers deserved greater transparency from telecommunications and pay-TV operators regarding their billing practices.

Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan, Adejuwon called on the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and other regulators to improve oversight and ensure prompt resolution of consumer complaints.

He also urged service providers to improve network quality and customer service, saying increased competition would drive better services and fairer pricing for subscribers.

Adejuwon added that stronger consumer protection measures and support for local businesses were essential to promoting accountability and sustainable economic growth in the country.
