FULafia appoints Mohammed as Director of Artificial Intelligence Centre

The management of Federal University of Lafia has appointed Associate Professor Mohammed Abubakar Mohammed as the new Director of its Centre for Artificial Intelligence (CAI).

The appointment was announced in the university’s bulletin dated June 19 and made available to journalists in Lafia on Saturday. According to the bulletin, the appointment was approved by the Vice-Chancellor, Muhammad Kida, as part of efforts to strengthen the institution’s capacity in emerging technologies, research and innovation.

The university said the appointment followed Mohammed’s successful tenure as Deputy Director of the centre, a position he assumed about six months ago. It noted that his elevation was based on his outstanding performance and effective implementation of the institution’s artificial intelligence initiatives and policies.

The academic, who hails from Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, holds doctoral degrees in Development and Exploitation of Oil and Gas Fields from Khazar University and in Geology from Gideon Robert University.

According to the bulletin, the appointment is expected to accelerate FULafia’s drive to become a leading centre for artificial intelligence, digital transformation and technology-driven research. The university added that the decision forms part of a broader restructuring and repositioning of key academic and administrative units.

In a related development, the Vice-Chancellor approved the reappointment of Victor Dugga for a second two-year term as Provost of the College of Postgraduate Studies. Also reappointed were Dalhatu Yusha’u and Mohammed Binin, while Joseph Zira and Jude Chima received new appointments.

The appointments were aimed at strengthening academic leadership, improving institutional efficiency and repositioning the institution for greater excellence.
