The Ogun State Government has temporarily relocated students of Our Lady of Apostles Girls Grammar School, Ijebu-Ode, to an alternative location following a recent chemical inhalation incident that raised concerns about the safety of the school environment.
Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the decision during an on-the-spot assessment of the school premises, where he personally evaluated the situation and received updates from experts investigating the incident.
According to the governor, preliminary findings from ongoing investigations have confirmed the presence of methane gas within the affected area of the school, prompting urgent measures to protect students, teachers, and other members of the school community.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Mr. Kayode Akinmade.
The statement explained that the temporary relocation was adopted as a precautionary measure aimed at safeguarding lives while allowing environmental experts, safety officials, and relevant government agencies to carry out comprehensive investigations into the source and concentration of the gas.

“The health and safety of our students, teachers, and the entire school community are of utmost importance to this administration.
We have therefore taken the necessary precautionary step of relocating the students temporarily while experts continue their investigation into the source of the contamination,” the governor said.
According to him, initial tests carried out at the location confirmed the presence of methane gas, a naturally occurring but potentially hazardous gas when found in high concentrations or confined spaces.
He explained that while investigations were still ongoing, the government would continue to monitor the situation closely and ensure that all necessary measures were implemented to guarantee the safety of everyone connected to the institution.
