Governor of Seyi Makinde has assured residents of Oyo State that the abducted schoolchildren and teachers being held by kidnappers will be rescued, stressing that the government is deploying every available resource to secure their safe return.
The governor gave the assurance while addressing popular social media influencer VeryDarkMan and a group of protesters who converged on the Oyo State Government House to demand urgent action over the prolonged captivity of the victims.
In a video that circulated widely on Tuesday, Makinde acknowledged the growing concerns among residents and parents, describing the situation as deeply painful and emotionally challenging for everyone involved. He’s said the government shared in the anguish of the affected families and remained committed to ensuring that the children and their teachers were reunited with their loved ones.
The governor revealed that the victims, comprising nursery and primary school pupils as well as their teachers, had spent more than a month in captivity, a development that has generated anxiety across the state and beyond.
Addressing the protesters, Makinde said he understood the pain being experienced by the families because he was also a parent.
“I am also distressed because I have children of my own. I’m also distressed with what has happened to our children. It has been one month, just one month and one day already,” the governor said.
His remarks came amid increasing public pressure on security agencies and government authorities to intensify efforts toward rescuing the victims and apprehending those responsible for the abduction.
Makinde explained that although security agencies had been actively working on the matter, he could not disclose operational details because of the sensitive nature of the ongoing rescue efforts.
According to him, releasing certain information to the public could compromise the operation and potentially endanger the lives of the victims.
“Because of the nature of the security situation that is involved, I cannot divulge a lot of information,” he stated.
The governor appealed for patience and understanding from members of the public, assuring them that relevant security agencies were working tirelessly behind the scenes to secure the release of the children and teachers.
He emphasized that the administration was treating the incident with the seriousness it deserved and would not relent until the victims were safely rescued.
