The Nigerian Fencing Federation (NFF) on Sunday used the Invest Lagos 3.0 forum to promote the 2026 Commonwealth Fencing Championships.
The federation said the championship would showcase the role of sports in driving national development, investment and social inclusion.
Its Vice President, Mrs Rachael Samuel, represented the federation at the high-level investment forum.
Samuel, in a statement following the event, highlighted fencing’s potential to attract partnerships and create lasting opportunities for athletes across Nigeria.
Invest Lagos 3.0 was organised by the Lagos State Government in collaboration with the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC).
The forum brought together investors, policymakers, diplomats, business leaders and government officials from across Africa.
Discussions centred on strengthening partnerships, attracting investments and promoting sustainable economic development.
The summit featured prominent personalities including Jonathan Marland, Chairman of CWEIC, and Samantha Cohen, Chief Executive Officer of CWEIC.
Also present were Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, and Commissioner for Commerce and investment, Folashade Ambrose-Medebem.
Samuel said the event provided a platform to position sports as a key driver of development, adding that the forum helped create awareness for the 2026 championships.
“The championships present an opportunity to demonstrate how sports can contribute to growth, inclusion and investment,” she said.
The federation vice president also engaged stakeholders on the need for strategic partnerships and sponsorship support.
She said such collaborations would be essential to successfully hosting the Commonwealth Fencing Championships.
Samuel stressed that improved sports infrastructure would create a lasting legacy beyond the competition.
She added that facilities would support grassroots development and inspire young fencers across communities.
The NFF vice president also highlighted efforts to increase women’s participation and leadership in sports.
According to her, inclusion remains a major priority in the development of fencing.
Samuel also revealed plans to introduce disability fencing at a major international competition in Africa.
According to her, the initiative is being developed through a partnership with World Ability Sport.
She said the move would promote accessibility and create opportunities for athletes with disabilities.
Samuel added that fencing could become a stronger platform for unity, empowerment and social transformation.
“As Lagos prepares to host the championships, collaboration remains vital to achieving success.
“Sports development depends on shared vision, commitment and active stakeholder participation”, she said.
She said platforms like Invest Lagos 3.0 were important for creating new opportunities.
Samuel added that investment in fencing would strengthen Nigeria’s sporting future and global presence.
