In a powerful fusion of global stardom and human rights advocacy, Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, stunned audiences at the FIFA World Cup Countdown Concert by using his headline performance to demand the release of abducted Nigerian schoolchildren and teachers.
​The multi-award-winning artist took the stage in Los Angeles wearing a highly symbolic, custom-designed black leather jacket. The front of the garment was adorned with green circular buttons, each meticulously inscribed with the name of one of the 39 pupils and seven teachers recently kidnapped by bandits from Community High School in Ahoro-Esinele, located in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
​To emphasize the grim reality of the ongoing security crisis, the names of the victims still held in captivity were written in sharp white lettering, while the names of those who tragically lost their lives during the ordeal were written in blood-red. Across the back of the jacket, the words “BRING THEM HOME” were boldly emblazoned, paired with a white T-shirt underneath that read “NIGERIA”.

​”Peace and love everywhere. May God be with the families of the abducted and the ones who have been killed,” Davido said. “They still haven’t been rescued; we’re praying to God every day. We’re also praying to God that the government hastens… My country is going through a lot. We represent everywhere we go.”
