The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced that several communities in Delta State will experience temporary disruption in electricity supply as the company continues preventive maintenance work at its Delta 132/33kV Transmission Substation.
In a statement issued on Friday through its official X handle, the company disclosed that the maintenance exercise commenced on June 4 and will continue daily between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. until June 16, 2026.
According to the company, the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the reliability and efficiency of power transmission infrastructure within the region.
TCN explained that the maintenance work is specifically aimed at facilitating the connection of a bus coupler circuit breaker as well as the rehabilitation of five isolators located on the main busbar of the transmission substation.
“The maintenance is to facilitate the connection of a bus coupler circuit breaker and the rehabilitation of five isolators on the main busbar,” the statement read.
The company noted that the planned maintenance is necessary to improve operational stability and ensure more reliable electricity transmission to customers and distribution companies connected to the facility.
Although the company did not provide a comprehensive list of the affected communities, it stated that areas served by the Delta 132/33kV Transmission Substation are expected to experience intermittent power outages during the maintenance window each day.
Residents and business operators in the affected areas have been advised to make adequate preparations for the temporary disruptions while the maintenance exercise lasts.
TCN stressed that the preventive maintenance operation is part of broader efforts to modernise and maintain critical transmission infrastructure across the country in order to reduce system failures and improve power supply reliability.
Industry experts have consistently maintained that regular maintenance of transmission facilities is essential to sustaining the national grid and minimising technical faults capable of causing prolonged blackouts.
The installation of a bus coupler circuit breaker, according to power sector analysts, is expected to enhance operational flexibility within the substation by enabling better load management and improving fault isolation during emergencies or maintenance activities.
Similarly, the rehabilitation of isolators on the main busbar is expected to improve safety and efficiency within the transmission network, ensuring smoother electricity distribution to connected feeders and consumers.
The latest announcement comes amid continued efforts by stakeholders in Nigeria’s electricity sector to address infrastructure deficits affecting power generation, transmission and distribution across the country.
In recent years, TCN has embarked on multiple upgrade and rehabilitation projects aimed at strengthening the national transmission network and reducing incidents of grid collapse and power interruptions.
Residents in some parts of Delta State have, however, expressed concerns over the impact of the temporary outages on businesses and daily activities, especially in areas heavily dependent on electricity for commercial operations.
Small business owners, artisans and residents who rely on electricity for refrigeration, production and other economic activities are expected to bear the impact of the disruptions during the maintenance period.
Despite the inconvenience, some stakeholders acknowledged the importance of preventive maintenance, noting that long-term improvements in electricity supply can only be achieved through consistent investment in infrastructure upgrades and technical maintenance.
The company assured electricity consumers that all necessary measures were being taken to ensure that the maintenance work is completed within schedule and with minimal disruption to affected communities.
TCN also appealed to residents and customers for understanding and cooperation throughout the duration of the exercise, reiterating its commitment to improving electricity transmission and supporting stable power supply nationwide.
