A high-level Federal Government delegation visited Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on Saturday, May 30, 2026, to address the ongoing crisis following the mass abduction of students and teachers in the Oriire Local Government Area.
​The visit was aimed at commiserating with the affected community and providing updates on rescue efforts for the victims kidnapped on May 15, 2026.
The high-powered delegation include Nuhu Ribadu, National Security Adviser (NSA), Olatunji Disu, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christopher Musa, Minister of Defence, Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President
To meet with community leaders and the families of those abducted from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School.
Governor Seyi Makinde also visited the community (specifically Ahoro-Esiele) on the same day, urging residents to remain united and avoid “apportioning blame” while security agencies work to secure the victims’ release.
​The abduction took place approximately two weeks ago when gunmen stormed three schools in the Esiele/Yawota area.
Reports indicate that 45 pupils and teachers were initially taken. As of May 31, 2026, the victims remain in captivity. Reports have surfaced regarding the death of at least one captive, a teacher named Michael Oyedokun, while in the hands of the kidnappers.
​The incident has triggered widespread outrage and security concerns across Southwest Nigeria. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has mobilized for a nationwide protest scheduled for Monday, June 1, in Ibadan to demand faster action from the government.
The Federal Government has emphasized that the “Safe School Initiative” is being reinforced to prevent further occurrences in rural communities.
