The Anambra State Government has vowed to track down and punish the gunmen responsible for the killing of two police officers and two civilians during a deadly ambush along the Amansea–Awa–Ufuma Road in Orumba North Local Government Area of the state.
The government declared that no stone would be left unturned in identifying and bringing the attackers to justice following the violent assault, which occurred on Sunday night.
According to reports gathered by our correspondent, the attack targeted a convoy conveying the Chief of Staff to the state governor, Chief Ben Nwankwo, who was returning to Awka after representing Governor Chukwuma Soludo at an official function.
The convoy was said to have come under heavy gunfire from armed men suspected to be criminal elements who ambushed the team along the road.
During the attack, two policemen attached to the convoy and two civilians reportedly lost their lives, while several other persons sustained injuries during the exchange of gunfire that lasted for several minutes.
Although Chief Nwankwo escaped unhurt, the incident has heightened concerns over insecurity and violent attacks in parts of the state.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that the assailants opened fire suddenly on the convoy, forcing security operatives attached to the delegation to respond in an intense gun duel.

Sources familiar with the incident disclosed that the convoy was returning from an assignment attended on behalf of Governor Soludo when the gunmen struck unexpectedly.

Government officials assured residents that security agencies had already commenced investigations and operations to track down the perpetrators.
