Dr Jean Kaseya, Director General of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), said governments and partners pledged approximately 498.8 million dollars to strengthen Ebola response efforts in affected African countries.
He said the funding would also support preparedness and emergency response measures in high-risk countries facing possible exposure to the ongoing Bundibugyo Ebola Virus outbreak across parts of the African continent.
Kaseya disclosed this on Monday through his X account, saying Africa remained united against the ongoing Bundibugyo Ebola Virus outbreak threatening several countries and requiring coordinated emergency response measures across the continent urgently.
“During the High-Level ministerial meeting on May 25, governments and partners announced approximately 498.8 million dollars in pledges and commitments to strengthen response efforts across affected and high-risk countries,” Kaseya said..
“This is a powerful demonstration of African solidarity, leadership, and collective responsibility in protecting our continent’s health security,” Kaseya said while commending governments and partners supporting the continent’s coordinated Ebola response efforts strongly.
According to him, trust, coordination and rapid action remain essential to stopping transmission and saving lives as the outbreak evolves within a complex environment across affected African countries and high-risk neighbouring regions.
He thanked member states, development partners and frontline responders for rising together at a critical moment for Africa’s health security and supporting efforts aimed at containing the deadly Ebola outbreak continent-wide.
